Antibiotic Drug Resistance Unit

The work of this unit is focussed towards diagnostic procedures for antibiotic drug susceptibility testing (AST). The unit develops diagnostic algorithms and expert systems for interpretative AST reading. Procedures for screening, detection and confirmation of antibiotic resistance mechanisms are developed, including e.g. Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamases (ESBL), AmpC, Carbapenemases, MRSA, and VRE. International guidelines for the interpretation of AST (CLSI, EUCAST) are critically evaluated with the view to improve the clinical interpretation of AST results. The unit works closely together with the Clinical Microbiology and Molecular Diagnostics Unit, and the Laboratory Automation Unit.
