The Institute of Medical Microbiology is part of the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich. The tasks of the Institute include teaching, research and laboratory diagnosis of bacterial and fungal infections.

• Teaching
  Teaching is offered to medical, dental, biology students of the University of Zurich and to students of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH).
  
• Diagnostics
  Diagnostic laboratories are accredited (ISO 17025) by the Swiss Accreditation Service SAS (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO) under the accreditation number 266.
  The institute is responsible for organizing quality control schemes/proficiency teachings for clinical microbiological laboratories.
